Apparently if you’re an undergrad and are standing underneath that bell tower while the bell is ringing, you won’t graduate. It’s a curse from monks who once resided on this land before Trinity College was built. It’s true—just ask the tour guide who told me. Well, actually the tour guide didn’t believe in this campus superstition—although it is an actual old urban legend held strong at Trinity College. Anyway, just be forwarned, if you are an undergraduate and haven’t yet earned your degree, DO NOT stand under the bell tower.

Since the bell tower legend is questionable by, at least, one of the students (i.e. the tour guide), I will give you another piece of Trinity College trivia/hearsay not based on superstition. This one involves the Long Room in the University’s Old Library. Apparently, the Long Room was inspiration for the library used in the Star Wars Episode II. Now, this isn’t such a bad thing except that George Lucas made an almost copycat version of the Long Room without the university’s permission. The university is now, apparently, in the process of trying to sue Lucas Productions. I don’t think they figured on what grounds yet, though.
Anyway, that’s it for the Trinity College trivia. Hear these bits of trivia and more by taking a Trinity College/Book of Kells tour whenever you’re in Dublin.
